It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of our homebred mare Abby aka Abracadabra who was euthanized after an accident on cross country at Glenarden Horse Trials yesterday. We are very thankful that her rider, Bianca Iddiols, appears to be okay other than a possible wrist fracture and concussion. She was taken to Headwaters Health Care Center to be checked out and was released late last night.
Abby and Bianca were having a fantastic day, in 4th place after dressage and stadium with their best dressage score to date. They were more than half way around cross-country when Abby just stumbled slightly on takeoff to a fence and was unable to recover, causing her to fall on her shoulder on landing. Bianca was thrown clear but tragically Abby’s upper front leg fractured from the impact of her fall. Abby was quickly and humanely euthanized on course.
We are thankful to the team at Glenarden for their fast response and compassionate care of Abby and Bianca. We would like to especially thank Jay & Pippa Hambly, TD Peggy, the medics, jump judges and vet on call, Dr. Allan Macleod, who is also our barn vet. We would also like to thank our wonderful group of riders here at Raynham Stables for their outpouring of love and support; immediately jumping to action, helping wherever needed and banding together during such a difficult time.
Abby was our second homebred foal and was born in 2007 from Havana, one of Lindsay’s top event horses. Bianca began working with Abby two years ago and we couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful rider for her. They had become a capable and confident team and we are very proud of their successes and were excited for their future together. Our hearts go out to Bianca, who is devastated by the loss of her partner.
We are all broken-hearted but feel fortunate to have such a wonderful, supportive barn family to help us heal. Thank you again to everyone for your support during this difficult time.
